Texas Tech U Animal and Food Science

The Texas Tech University Animal & Food Science Building included research and teaching labs, animal holding facilities, classrooms, departmental suites, and faculty/ graduate offices and support spaces. The new facility is designed as a 53,000 square foot, two-story laboratory, classroom and office building with a physical connection to an existing meats lab, livestock arena, classroom and office facility. Laboratory functions within the building include spaces for research as well as teaching for animal science and food technology. A food testing facility and a retail outlet serve as support spaces for the laboratories. Classroom functions include spaces for a lecture hall type classroom and an interactive classroom. Office spaces contained within the facility include administrative, faculty, visiting scientist and graduate students. The building is designed for flexibility of future adaptive use and building expansion. The design and siting of the building were developed on the basis of Texas Tech University's Campus Master Plan, with a desire to upgrade the appearance of the existing building that is located adjacent to a multi purpose arena. Exterior materials include Texas Tech blend face brick, simplified cast stone ornamentation, and red Spanish clay tile roofing to reflect a transitional Spanish Renaissance architecture adopted with the Campus Master Plan.
